Dear Elaine,

Welcome to our second high summer newsletter. Where did a whole year go? Just a short letter this time, with a few pix of a lovely summer garden.

People are on holiday, or mopping up, depending on where they live. This year Shropshire and Ludlow have had their share of flooded farms, smallholdings, streets and homes. The road bridge into Ludlow which was swept away is now partly rebuilt, and the town has quickly become used to the diversions.

People are picking themselves up again, but the effects on fresh produce, the grain harvest and the hay cutting are having an effect already on the immediate availability of fresh salads and vegetables. The box scheme and the smallholdings which supply our local organic shop, across the border in Wales, and also in Herefordshire, are unable to send their usual range of produce. Our own raised beds were swamped and lots of the saladings bolted, but the dark green leafy plants like spinach and chard, look as vigorous as always. Raw foodies aren't affected by the damage to the potato crops, but everyone else is, and the grain crops are going to be scarce this autumn and winter. That means bread and flour for a lot of people, and for us, wheatgrain for planting wheatgrass. Don't worry, we have plenty for our courses for the rest of this year, but we will be thinking well ahead to get in supplies for next spring.

We are looking forward to this year's Practitioner Training. Fully booked, we start in just a few days. Enquiries are already coming in for the next course, and we'll let you know as soon as the date is confirmed.
